Ghostlight

We are so excited to bring our Ghostlight Fall Programming back for another year! This year, we’re hosting our very first improv class with nationally recognized instructor Jesse Cramer!

Join us this fall for IMPROV!

Improv is one of the most useful skills young actors can learn, as it enables them to adapt in real-time, listen carefully to their scene partners, and react authentically. Students will learn the basics of improv comedy, from the cornerstone principle of “Yes And” to short-form games (like those seen on WHO’S LINE IS IT ANYWAY?) and long-form scenes. This will help you practice thinking on your feet, following your instincts, and collaborating with scene partners in a judgment-free environment. All of these skills are especially helpful for auditioning! The class will culminate in a public performance for friends and family. We will meet Monday evenings this fall.

Jesse Cramer is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator with over 15 years experience. As a writer, his plays have been produced in New York City, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, and his most recent film script THE DEVIL, a horror-satire about the dangers of indoctrinating children, is currently in development with Before the Door Pictures (EP: Zachary Quinto) and Scythia Films. He also co-wrote an episode of MODERN LOVE for Amazon with Dan Savage (“Savage Lovecast”), and the two have also written together for FX. He has also worked with David Shore (HOUSE, THE GOOD DOCTOR), Stu Zicherman (DIVORCE, AMERICAN SPORTS STORY), and Ben Karlin (MODERN FAMILY) and has developed film and television projects with top production companies and networks, including NBC, CBS Studios, Funny or Die, Fremantle, A24, Madica Productions, among others.

In theater, he has directed 12 productions, including THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK (MAT nomination for Best Play and Best Director) and NOISES OFF (MAT winner for Best Play and Best Ensemble) for Act3 Productions. He has also helmed WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF, ALL MY SONS, THE 39 STEPS, among many others. As an educator, he has worked with many academic institutions and theaters, including Act3 Productions, The Hirsch Academy, and The Community School. He is also a professional mentor for individuals with autism, employing a neurodiversity-affirming approach that focuses on the abilities of the individual rather than deficits. He has also been trained in improv comedy by The Groundlings and The Upright Citizens Brigade.  Jesse combined his passion for education and art with CIRCLES, a short film starring a cast of actors with autism. The film debuted at the MAXXI Museum in Rome, Italy, and was optioned and developed by Warner Brothers.  He attended The Penn State University Schreyer Honors College, where he graduated with a BA in English, and his thesis, a novel entitled ALARM, was awarded Best Thesis upon his graduation.
